Cyclone built by Darrian Tefft of Jolly Roger Customs |
| Built by Darrian Tefft and Mario Audia of Jolly Roger
Customs in 2005, the Cyclone was inspired by, and is a
tribute to, the board-track racing champion of the early
1900’s that goes by the same name.
At its core, Cyclone features an 88” S&S
based Panhead engine built by Steve Broyles of Stevenson’s
Cycle. The power is transferred through an RMD Billet
primary into a Baker RSD (right side drive) 6-speed
transmission. All of that power is brought to a standstill
through the utilization of a revolutionary transmission
braking system by Pro-Fab, which is why you don’t
see any braking hardware attached to either wheel of
the bike. The wheels themselves are a pair of one-off
100 Spoke Classic wire wheels by American Wire Wheel.
The rear wheel is a “single-sided” 18x8.5”
that has been machined clean on the blank side; and
the front is a 21x3” with a custom built “no-brake”
narrow hub. The wheels feature gloss black rims and
hubs with polished stainless steel spokes and chrome-plated
nipples. The wheels are shod with 120mm front and 260mm
rear Metzeler tires.
Beyond that, nearly everything else on this motorcycle
was hand-built by the team at Jolly Roger Customs. With
an emphasis on engineering, the rigid frame that is
raked to 38 degrees, and the massive billet “springer”
front-end are true originals. The bars are one-off polished
billet originals that feature a twist clutch and internal
wiring. All of this gets pointed in the right direction
with the guidance of a custom fabricated headlight.
Keeping it clean, the seat uses an internal hydraulic
strut as suspension, and the taillight utilizes a completely
wireless set-up. Countless hours were spent shaping
the custom, heat-wrapped exhaust pipes.
Once everything was painted by Liquid Illusions, and
polished by K&D Custom Polishing, the final product
is the motorcycle you see here. Visit www.jollyrogercustoms.com

by Darrian Tefft and his partner Mario Audia of Jolly
Roger Customs.
